VINTAGE KIDS: THE TEAM & THE DESIGNERS
THE VINTAGE KIDS PHILSOPHY
At Vintage Kids we have a love of all things vintage –fabrics, bows, buckles, cushions, rugs, art, prints, toys & collectables. For your children we have bought together a broad range of fabulous artists, designers and vintage ‘magpies’ to bring you a collection of a by-gone era. Our clothing is all new; made from a blend of vintage up-cycled fabrics and contemporary vintage style fabrics. We pride ourselves on hunting out the very best of New Zealand talent to offer you at Vintage Kids. Our clothing is handmade and limited edition, there may be only one available, so once it’s gone, it’s gone, but rest assured we will continue to source the best possible fabrics to bring you more. If you missed out on something you particularly liked –drop us a line we’ll do our best to keep you informed when similar items appear. Or even better, watch us on Facebook and we’ll post regular updates of when new treasures are found.
At Vintage Kids we like to keep things personal – and give our talented local designers the recognition they deserve. That is why you will find that by some of our pieces you’ll see a story about the maker and a link should you wish to see more of their pieces. If you think you have a talent you’d like to share…and have a wonderful way with vintage, email us at info@vintagekids.co.nz, we’d love to hear from you.
Kind regards,
The Vintage Kids Team.

Mixit
MiXiT features a range of gorgeous items for toddlers. Andrea Anuzis started MiXiT three years ago after her son Vinnie turned one. She wanted to create a range of fun items that were a little different and with a handmade touch. And that could be ‘thrown in the wash’ of course! She loves vintage and retro fabrics, buttons and embellishments but also enjoys a lot of the contemporary designs that are being created. Hence the name MiXiT – a mixit of old and new, retro and contemporary, funky and traditional.
Andrea was a self-labelled “corporate chick” mainly working in IT, until she became a mum. From childhood she has dabbled in crafty things, and has been a quilter, patchworker and sewing addict for many years. Her mother first taught her to knit and sew and she has honed her skills with many courses and workshops over the years. She lives on the North Shore with her husband Ross, son Vinnie and cat Molly. Andrea’s workroom is in her house and is a treasure trove! Andrea says “It’s not a workroom to me – it’s a funroom! I love creating! When people buy my items I get such a buzz.”
AsQdesign
asQ (pronouced 'askew' [uh-skyoo]) was derived from my maiden name which wonderfully allows me to be slightly off - or askew :P My all time favourite word is retro. I get super excited when out hunting to add to my wide collection of funky and vintage fabrics - which are my inspiration. Paisley makes me smile and florals make me dance. I hope to create garments both you and your little chicken can enjoy. Each and every item is not only hand made with love but a complete one off design so as to ensure your child is kept as unique on the outside as they are on the inside. Thanks for your support. Karyn
SnuggleB
SnuggleB lives in the wonderful Waikato. She discovered the comfort a special toy can bring when she had her children. She has been sewing for a long time and loves anything vintage so started collecting vintage fabrics. She decided to share these wonderful fabrics with others, this has bought out her creative side and this lead this to these gorgeous vintage fabric toys.
Seedling is all about giving kids the opportunity to explore their world and their abilities. A child’s natural instinct is to get involved, give anything a go, think creatively and ask questions. Seedling creates kits to nurture this process and engage young minds, planting ideas that grow a passion for creative thinking. The Seedling team designs, develops and creates all their kits right here in New Zealand.
Lulu's Closet
Deb from Lulu’s Closet loves to create funky kids clothes with a vintage twist. She believes that our beautiful vintage textiles deserve a second chance and so turns fabric treasures from teatowels & tablecloths to gran’s doilies into garments that not only look gorgeous but are sure to revive some memories!
Lou'sShoes
Lou’s Shoes is an artisan leatherworking business from Dunedin. She handcrafts every shoe with care and exceptional attention to detail.
Drawing inspiration from classic vintage styles the collection features outrageously adorable Gaiters, Penny Loafers and Brogues, in miniature!
Not only do Lou’s Shoes look good enough to eat, they have also been thoughtfully designed with double-stitched, non-slip suede soles and elasticated ankles. Lou’s Shoes are made from high-quality soft breathable leather and allow plenty of flexibility for growing feet.
As there are no longer any institutions teaching the craft of shoemaking or shoemaking apprenticeships on offer, she has travelled overseas to learn more about her profession. With aspirations to enliven the art of shoemaking throughout New Zealand, she is now creating my own exquisite works of art with each pair of ‘Lou’s Shoes’ that she crafts by hand.
Limited Vintage
With a passion for design, a love of all things vintage and a desire to recycle Limited Vintage was started. They craft limited edition cushion and hottie covers. The covers are made from recycled wool blankets and feature hand cut felt motifs. As they only use original blankets, you’ll only ever find limited cover's of the same design.
Stay-at-home mum Rachel started FunFair in 2008 in response to a growing frustration at the lack of clothing with real character available for children in mainstream clothing stores. Having long supported fair trade practices and shunning mass produced goods she began making clothing for her 3 children using vintage and repurposed fabrics. FunFair grew from there! She believes that the time and love involved in making something by hand reflects the way each of us is uniquely and lovingly crafted by our creator. She loves all things vintage and retro and wholeheartedly embraces using fabrics in a way that is quite contrary to their original purpose. May you find a FunFair treasure just right for your little one."
I learnt to sew when I was 8 or 9 years old, making shorts for my Granddad as a Christmas present. I decided to start sewing again after the birth of my son, when I realised that there is just not that much quality boys clothing out there compared to girls. Although I do make girls clothing as well I want to focus on clothing for boys and make something a little different, yet stylish and practical. I love vintage fashion and have always searched for the gems in op-shops. I also love up-cycling and using vintage fabrics. The name Bearberry came up when I was about to give up on a name. My name means little bear in Latin and I would have loved to use that, but as you can imagine it has been used a lot. So I did a bit of research and found the Bearberry plant, also called Urva-ursi, apt as Ursi is my nickname. A perfect name for a kids-wear label as Bearberry is also a small plant. I hope you like my creations.."
