As a decade of great social change where gender roles were concerned, the 70’s was a time when many women celebrated their empowerment and were greatly optimistic about what could be achieved by the feminist movement.
Bringing images of femininity from the 70’s into the contemporary context enables us to reflect on how much things have changed—for one, micro-miniskirts and red leather boots are no longer required uniform for air hostesses!
By playfully engaging with these images, we remind ourselves of our successes and reconnect with the optimism and fun that accompanied women’s discovery of their social and sexual empowerment. I loved searching out these wonderful images.
I hope you have just as much fun wearing them.
